Troncones internet issues
We cannot promise fast Troncones internet, but we can promise an amazing beach experience. Troncones now has two internet providers (que milagro!), and Casa Oasis has both of them, just in case. Still, this being Mexico and all, that doesn’t mean you’ll always have WIFI or that it’ll ever be fast WIFI. There’s always a vacation destination trade off. Iffy WIFI and wobbly cell service are the dark underbelly of affordable beachfront rentals and cheap margaritas.
But, you’re not coming to Troncones for the WIFI, right? If you wanted your best internet vacation ever, you’d be looking elsewhere. We can guarantee the WIFI’s better in St Tropez. But we couldn’t afford a margarita there, much less a beach rental. (Plus, our beach is way better.)
At Casa Oasis, we recognize that even though great internet access is not an integral part of the amazing #TronconesBeachExperience, that doesn’t mean you won’t need it. In between naps, you’ll have important cyber things to do. Gotta check email, skype with Aunt Martha every Tuesday, post to Instagram to make all your friends jealous, etc. This is why we have two WIFI networks to keep you connected.
*Mexico willing: Troncones internet is at the mercy of the whims and vagaries of the anti-upkeep national power company (moist salt air + electrical wires + corporate apathy = big fun). Not to mention the richest man in the world’s diabolically under-maintained telephone/internet monopoly. Our second internet provider, MegaCable, doesn’t even have a customer service phone line. You have to go in person and wait for hours to report an outage. Viva Mexico! Still, we somehow nearly always have service.
Surfing speeds may vary
But keep in mind that down here, 10 MBPS is blazing fast, and our three units have to share, so don’t count on streaming movies every night. Our piddly retro bandwidth is laughable by US standards. It’s ok for email, basic surfing, and the occasional kitten video.
If, by some coincidence of accelerated entropy, both of our WIFI networks are down at the same time, you do have options. Several Troncones restaurants, Like Cafe Sol and Costa Brava, also offer free WIFI to their patrons.
Ideally, you’ll make lemonade and turn these technological calamities into a great excuse to unplug and immerse yourself in the sea, instead.
Happy surfing! (You’ll go faster on Troncones waves than on Troncones Internet.)
Phones and cell phone service in Troncones
Troncones is also tricky as far as cell phone coverage goes. Cell signal is sporadic and subject to change, but it’s also much better than it was 10 years ago. Coverage is generally better on the beach side of the flats, or even on the beach. Of course, whether or not you can concentrate on Aunt Gladys’ complaints while in the presence of such beauty, who knows.
We have a relatively new cell phone tower in town. It still works (give it a few years), but they tend to inexplicably turn it off now and then. If this makes no sense to you, and you feel you want to begin to understand the third world, read this novel: The War of Don Emanuel’s Nether Parts.
Land Lines
There are a handful of pay phones in town (they work only with Telmex Ladatel phone cards), and Gaby’s store offers paid local and long distance phone service.
Better yet, forget the gadgets and just use these technological calamities as an excuse to unplug and immerse yourself in your #BeachExperience!
